Presbyterian Legal Assistance Network (PLAN)
Providing free legal information in clinics.
About PLAN Legal Clinic
Presbyterian Legal Assistance Network (PLAN) – a collaboration of First Presbyterian Church, Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee, and volunteer independent attorneys – provides free legal information in clinics. PLAN is a member of the Tennessee Faith & Justice Alliance, a Tennessee Supreme Court Initiative through the Administrative Office of the Courts. Located at 215 Foster Street, the office is in the building with Loaves & Fishes. Volunteers from the church and community serve as receptionist at each clinic.
The primary goal of the clinic is to put a person in need and who has a legal problem face to face with an attorney. Most of the issues discussed at the clinic are either not really a "legal problem", or they can be resolved by one-time advice or referral. The clients receive a much-needed sense of satisfaction by being able to talk with an attorney, have the attorney listen and provide them with the desired information to move on.
More than 1.2 million Tennesseans are indigent, finding it extremely difficult to get legal help in civil matters when they are faced with struggles. The top legal struggles for individuals and families in Tennessee include healthcare, family law issues, landlord/tenant issues and debt.
